Amos

Amos’ burden is the LORD roars like a lion. The LORD is awesome, mighty and about to devour his prey in judgement. So ‘prepare to meet your God’ (4v12), ‘seek Him and live’ (5v4 & 14-16). Remember warnings of judgement are invitations to repentance. We too need this message, to counter a sentimental view of God and to counter avoiding talking about God’s judgement. Amos is especially concerned about how we treat: the LORD and His Word; worship; and one another – do we reflect that the LORD is merciful and just, in all of life? He speaks with striking contemporary relevance.
